What the DG DN II | Art Does Better
Three Times Faster Autofocus with HLA
The first-generation DG DN used a stepping motor. The DG DN II replaces it with HLA — Sigma's High-response Linear Actuator — which drives the focus group at maximum speed more than three times faster than the previous model. For photographers shooting weddings, events, sports, and portrait sessions where timing is critical, this AF speed upgrade is the most immediately practical improvement in the new generation.
Higher Resolution Across the Entire Zoom Range
Six FLD glass elements, two SLD elements, and five high-precision aspherical elements correct aberrations more thoroughly than any previous Sigma 24-70mm Art lens. Sagittal coma flare — the starburst distortion of point light sources toward image corners — is specifically controlled for high resolution all the way to the frame periphery. On high-resolution cameras like the Sony A7R V (61MP) and L-Mount bodies, this corner performance is visible and meaningful.
17cm Minimum Focus Distance — Near-Macro Capability
At 24mm wide, the DG DN II focuses down to 17cm / 6.7 inches with a maximum magnification of 1:2.7. For a standard zoom, this is exceptional close-focus performance — enabling detailed product shots, food photography, and environmental close-up work without switching to a dedicated macro lens. At 70mm the minimum focus distance is 34cm with 1:4 magnification.
Nano Porous Coating and Super Multi-Layer Coating
Two flare-suppression coatings maintain contrast and colour accuracy in backlit conditions and high-contrast mixed lighting. A water and oil repellent coating on the front element resists smudging and moisture. The dust and splash resistant structure with rubber seals at the mount handles outdoor and location shooting in variable conditions.
Aperture Ring with De-Click and Lock
The DG DN II adds a physical aperture ring — absent in the first generation. The click switch provides audible aperture steps for stills photography. The de-click switch enables smooth, silent aperture transitions for video recording. Two AFL buttons — one on the side, one on the top for vertical orientation shooting — can be assigned to camera functions. A zoom lock switch prevents the barrel from extending under its own weight when carrying the camera.
